Here are some tips to keep in mind when you are completing Part One of your IELTS speaking test. Remember that IELTS speaking is a test but there are no ‘correct’ or ‘incorrect’ answers. Answer naturally, as you would in conversation. Fluency is very important. Don’t rush in with an answer – in normal conversation you think about the question you are being asked before you respond. In Part One, don’t keep speaking if you have nothing left to say and find you are repeating yourself. Although it is important to be fluent, you should also consider the grammar which is most appropriate to answer the question. You should also remember to consider a range of vocabulary in your answer.
