Let’s look back at the closed question we saw earlier. Answering simply with ‘Yes’ is obviously not going to get a good result. Adding just a little more information such as this is still not demonstrating a range of ability to the examiner. None of the responses demonstrated here would be very effective. Your main aim throughout the speaking test is to give full responses to questions or statements and give as much information as is relevant to the question. Now we will look at an example of a full response. One technique you can use to give a full answer is to consider the following points. Why?, So?, But? And any additional information you might think of that is relevant to the question. This is how the technique works with the answer given.
