Narration:

Speculating and describing change. Let’s consider the three sample questions. The first is asking the candidate to consider changing trends over the last 10 years. To answer this type of question and to demonstrate a range of tenses, we could think of structuring sentences using past tenses, present perfect (from past to now) and present tenses to discuss the current situation. The second two questions are asking for speculation about the future. To present an answer to these questions we should think about using future tenses, modal verbs (might, may etc) and also conditionals. If you have not done so already, you should study the lessons in the grammar section of this IELTS course. On the next page you will see sample answers for the three questions. Consider how the candidate has used different tenses and structures in the sample answers.
