Free IELTS books to download

Seven IELTS eBooks, nearly 400 pages, and 32 listening recordings. Free PDFs. No account, no email address, no payment.

These free IELTS books to download cover the whole test between them. Each one takes a single part and works through it in detail: what the examiner is looking for, the language you need, and a practice exercise at the end of every chapter with the answers explained.

One set covers both modules. Listening and speaking are identical in Academic and General Training, and where reading and writing differ the books cover both versions and say which chapters apply to which module. Nothing is split, and nothing is held back.

The free IELTS books to download

Every file opens directly. Nothing is behind a login.

You do not have to download the ZIP. Every recording is a tappable link inside the listening book, so if you are reading on a phone the audio plays straight from the page. The ZIP is there for anyone who wants the files offline.

Use the books alongside the website

The books and the pages are generated from the same source, so they always agree. What the website adds is the parts a PDF cannot do.

Questions about the free IELTS books

Are the IELTS books really free to download?

Yes. Every book is a direct PDF download. There is no account to create, no email address to give and nothing to pay.

How many free IELTS books are there?

Seven, covering reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar and the CEFR levels. Together they run to nearly 400 pages, and there are 32 listening recordings as well.

Do I need to download the audio files?

Only if you want them offline. Every recording is a tappable link inside the listening book, so on a phone the audio plays straight from the page. The ZIP is 82 MB and contains all 32 files.

Do I need a different book for Academic or General Training?

No. One set covers both. Where the modules differ, which is only in reading and writing, the book covers both versions and marks which chapters apply to which module.

What format are the IELTS books in?

PDF, so they open on a phone, tablet or computer and can be read offline. Each one has a contents page and answers at the end of every chapter.

Which IELTS book should I start with?

The one for your weakest skill. If you are not sure which that is, sit one full practice test on this site first and let the result decide.

Is the material the same as the website?

Yes, deliberately. The books are generated from the same source as the pages, so they cannot fall out of date with each other. The website adds exercises that mark themselves, full practice tests with audio, and a band score at the end of each one.

When free is not enough

You can learn the format, the question types and the marking criteria from these books without paying anything. What no book can do is tell you what band your own writing would get, or how your speaking measures against the four criteria.

IELTStestONLINE assesses your writing and speaking against those four criteria, instantly and as often as you like, using a system built by a former IELTS examiner and examiner trainer. It also keeps every score in one place, and carries no advertising.
