These are model letters for IELTS General Training Task 1, covering all three registers: formal, semi formal and personal. The register decision is the first thing you make and the first thing that is marked.
Use them the right way round. Read the question, write your own answer, and only then read the model. Reading the model first tells you very little about your own writing, because everything looks obvious once someone has done it.
A model answer shows you the target. If you want to see the gap between a real candidate answer and that target, the band sample answers carry every examiner correction marked on the candidate's own text.
