Qualifying words and other ways to compare. We can use qualifying words to give more specific information about a comparison. Here are some qualifying words. Consider this sentence. We know that the speaker’s brother is taller than the speaker; however, we can give even more information by including a qualifying word. Using ‘slightly’ tells us that there is not a great deal of difference. Using far tells us that there is a significant difference. Remember that in the IELTS test, you need to demonstrate a range of structures and vocabulary. Here is another way you could present a comparison. In this sentence, the speaker is saying that the people are the same. However, in these sentences, the speaker is talking about differences in friendliness. They are not the same.
